Comment: I have been retired for about 5 years. My major retirement activity has been volunteering as a Nature Guide at a nearby State Park/Natural Area. I deal mostly with groups of school children kindergarten thru 10th grade. It lets me use my BS in forestry and PhD in Tree Physiology and enjoy my delight with children. In 2011 I received the park's Volunteer of the Year Award. In the last couple of years I've started a Naturalist's Blog for the park's website ( https://tryoncreek.wordpress.com/ ). I also do an old time logging presentation showing the tools and techniques used by the loggers in the last century (no trees are killed during this presentation!) I also play a small role in training some of the summer employees for the State Parks and Forestry Departments. I'm still with Toastmasters, now in my 26rd year. My wife of 44 years and I are still helping a good friend with his 8-year-old twin girls on a weekly basis, having started when they were 4 days old. Their Mom died of breast cancer 4 years ago. We think we are good for them, and they are a joy to us. Last year we enjoyed a fabulous trip to Spain. I visited with SLP '65 classmate Tom Baruth this past summer for a couple of days. Have a fun reunion! |

Comment: This will be my first reunion, and I am looking forward to seeing people after 50 years! (I actually did not graduate until 1966 as I had to make up a year when I returned from being in Brazil as an AFS student). I have been living in Chapel Hill, NC for the past 29 years where I am a professor at the University of North Carolina. I do research / teaching in the area of social work, maternal and child health, and public health. I have been married to Roger Schwarz (organizational psychologist and consultant) for 30 years and we have two young adult children. (I did the marriage and parenting thing late). Noah just got married and moved to San Francisco where he will start medical school at UCSF in the fall; Hannah is a rising senior at Yale and a budding journalist. Life is good and full of new adventures. See you all soon!! |

Life is good! I have been married to my husband, Fred, for 45 years. We have two daughters, two sons-in-law, and five grandchildren (4 boys and a princess). Three of the grandsons live in Plymouth and the other two grandkids live in Chicago. I retired from teaching two years ago. I have kept busy babysitting, volunteering, going to swimming lessons, football, basketball and baseball games, spending time with friends, and traveling. I look forward to reconnecting with former classmates at the reunion. Has it really been 50 years??!! |

Hello everyone! Wow, 50 years has gone by so quickly but with many good memories and much I am grateful for. I have been married to Mary (hospital medical social worker) for 36 years now. After 44 ½ years in electrical equipment sales I retired last year and Mary retired soon afterwards. This has allowed us to follow our dream of extensive travel highlighted by a 2014 trip to Vietnam and Cambodia. It was gratifying to see both countries recovering from so many past difficult years. Retirement has also allowed us to participate in more volunteer opportunities. The need for help seems to be everywhere but the greater community connection and the giving feeling has been a nice reward. We have lived the past 34 years in the Milwaukee area but have decided to move in September to Boise, ID. Our youngest son is a pilot there and we are looking forward to living close to him, his wife, and our new granddaughter. It will also be much closer to our daughter, a physical therapist in Portland, OR and our oldest son, a researcher at Google X in Mountain View, CA. While I would very much like to be at the 50th Reunion, we will be at a nephew’s wedding in NC and packing for the move upon return. Life has been very good for us and we are looking forward to whatever the future may bring. |

Hi to all; I am negligent, having thought I did this several years ago. I know, CRS. After HS, I graduated from U of Mn P.T. school. I was fortunate to get a direct appointment as a US Army officer to practice PT. I spent 2 + years, primarily at Walter Reed Hostpital in Washington DC. Incredible opportunity as we received all millitary victims from Europe/Viet Nam who lived East of ythe Mississippi River. An exciting, and challenging, time for medicine. I married Cindy (Gosselin) prior to my Army carreer, and remain so today. #45 this summer. After spending 43 years in practice, and almost 20 years as a medical consultant for several insurance companies, I pulled the plug. While I miss the practice, I don't regret the move for one minute. Cindy and I enjoy our dogs ( Rescued St Bernards..yup, for those who knew Cindy, you remember her St.B's) our sons, and 5 grand children. I bike ride as often as possible, and have participated in many long, organized, and self directed, bike rides through-out the US. Given that I helped build 2/3 of our homes, I remain very busy with rehab projects, helping my son, etc.. Currently, I am one of 3 co-founders for a seniors biking program hosted through my local county government. A gas! Lastly, I am a novice fly fisher, but try to get out whenever possible. Always a great time to reflect, and enjoy nature. The last year and 1/2 have been challenging, and demanding, as Cindy was diagnosed with MDS (Mylodysplastic Syndrome). A bone marrow cancer, survivable only through bone marrow transplant. For 6 months, the outlook was grim, BUT..an experimental drug program @ U Md. hospital was the key!! So, she is now 11 months post transplant, and medically is 100% clean of the cancer. She remains weak, has lost much weight, but remains very positive. We do plan to attend the events at Park Tavern and the Saturday night re-union. It was fun to see many at the PT in 2010, and we look forward to this event, as it will be the first allowed trip in almost 2 years. Be well and safe to all! A progrees note on Cindy..meds are being reduced, and ALL Lab studies look A++ Hooray! Really looking forward to the PT and Big event. Kudos to ALL committe members for their tireless and dedicated efforts. 12/25/2020..Happy Holidays ALL! Crazy times..we are well, now 50+years married, still rescuing dogs when previous dogs retire to rainbow bridge. Hope to make the "late" 55th, Pandemic allowing. Be well, and be safe John..."Sarge" 10/16/2023..Cindy is now 9.5 years post transplant. WOW..still doing well. We all experience age-related issues, but minimal for both of us to date. Still traveling 3-4x/year in our RV. Hopefully, that continues for 5-7 more years. If any of you travel out Md. way, give a shout out. Be well and stay safe. 5/26/2024 Update: It is with great sadness I have to report losing Cindy, my wife, and dearest friend. She passed away 5/1/2024 from a septic blood infection secondary to a tick bite from a Lone Star tick. A truly shitty way to go!!!For all others who have lost their loved ones, I share in your heartache and loss. Cindy and I started dating our Jr. year, and were to have been married 54 years this coming June. On the positive side, we had an additional 10 great years of life together following her bone marrow transplant. Stay close to ALL who are important to you Be well...John...Sarge |

Yes, met the love of my life on the SLP New York trip and married six years later after we both finished our college programs. John, (I call him Sarge), completed the U of Mn and I went to Marquette University. i specialized in psychiatric nursing and worked in the private sector for 31 years then in Corrections for the last 14 years. I loved all my experiences as there was never a dull moment and alot to learn and keep up with. I had to retire given my diagnosis of MDS, then treatments, transfusions, ad nauseum, then finally a Bone Marrow transplant 16 months ago. Slow but progressive recovery that I couldnt have done without my love, best friend, partner who became a care giver. But, now more independence and some bicycling, walking and swimming. Life is good and we love the outdoors and hope to begin doing more traveling now. Have two sons, who live nearby and 5 grandchildren. Enjoy the opportunitis to get together. Still have St Bernards, but now down to one as Bernie departed us 3 months ago. Bosley now the king of the hill until we rescue another Saint. I have applied for a position on th Md Board of Nursing and signed up to be a volunteer with Be The Match--Bone Marrow transplant program. Actually headquarters in Mpls. Of course I urge all of you to encourage your kids to donate. You all are too old!! Never know who's life you might save. i was saved by my donor who resides in San Antonio, is my son's age and has two children. She donated 8 years ago and they called her when she became a match for me. WOW I have been communicating and will try to meet her and her family next year. That's a wrap and look forward to the celebrations and gatherings and catching up-- probably like speed dating. Photo attached with Sarge |

i think it's funny that all through school we didn't have any current affairs classes or talk much about world events (except kennedy assination). Viet Nam to me, and probably most of you, was a problem and a land far, far away. we heard of laos, cambodia and Nam. The huge protests, draft card burnings and kent state were all yet to come. I, as most, was about to wrap up my tenure at slp and move on to what my life was to become. Little did i know that in less than 3 years i would be slogging thru the rice paddies and jungles of viet nam. Quit the "coming of age" shock after the relatiive "happy days" of SLP "all night party", pep ralliies and Sparky. Oh well, life goes on i guess. Me? Well after school played in a garage band with Bill Norton and Barry Siewert (greatly influenced by the Beatles!). Had a cadillac hertz to help us transport band equipment! Played all over MN and a good time was had by all! Later played in a "show band" called "King James and his Fabulous Deciples" with Bill Norton. Played Luckies, and other prominent clubs at the time. (even won in a battle of the bands with the Underbeats!) For livlihood worked at NSP 30 yrs in IT (boy did the typing class i took ever come in handy! Also i was about the only guy in a room full of gals!!) Finally retiring to taking care of some rentals, cats, dogs, fish and 3 horses. And, by the way, taking a much greater interest in history than i EVER did in high school! why is that? Anyway, thank you History Channel! |
